Lydia’s Story

Lydia* was born in Mara region of Tanzania in 2007. She lived with her father and stepmother, and attended primary school there. In 2019, Lydia attended a secondary school class. However, when her mother moved away, she became very unhappy and was unable to pass her year and move on to the next class.

Lydia moved with her mother to Dar Es Salaam and stayed at home with her for some months. She joined a non-formal secondary school known as Brothers Academy in 2021, but was forced to drop out after six months due to a lack of financial support. After giving up secondary school, she stayed at home and helped with the housework.

Soon, she heard about KIWOHEDE, and asked if she could enrol.

Lydia joined KIWOHEDE Open school in January 2023 as a class II student. She is ambitious and wants to go far with her studies. She first wants to help her mother; she understands the challenges they face at home in paying their bills and buying clothes and food.

Lydia loves attending school. She is happy with the support she receives from her teachers, and dreams of becoming a doctor.
